As speculation swirls around potential international influence in Imran Khan’s release from Adiala Jail, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a firm denial. The party rejects claims of seeking foreign help and emphasizes that Khan’s release must come through legal and constitutional channels.

Ruling Coalition’s Claims

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has publicly alleged that PTI is urging foreign governments to intervene. In a November 2024 interview, Asif stated:

“They are telling foreign powers to influence Pakistan towards releasing Imran Khan and send him abroad.”

He warned these unnamed countries were allegedly prepared to grant Imran Khan asylum following his release. However, no evidence has been provided to support these claims.

PTI Denies Foreign Involvement

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, chairman of PTI, answered promptly and decisively by denying any such intentions. He indicated that the release of Imran Khan “will be according to the constitution and law of Pakistan,” and stressed the fact that the party is not asking for outside help.

This position aligns with PTI’s broader narrative: that their struggle is domestic and constitutional, not influenced by foreign agents.

US Interest Not Backing Speculation

Further undercutting speculation, those close to former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif say that even the United States is not prioritizing Imran Khan’s fate. A senior PML-N official spoke on condition of anonymity in April, noting:

Imran “is not even on the U.S.’s to-do list.”

This assessment reportedly stems from diplomatic conversations indicating the U.S. is focused on regional security and counterterrorism—not Pakistani political prisoners.

What’s at Stake Politically

For a long time, PTI has insisted on Imran Khan’s release per legal proceedings and various rounds of negotiation with the government. Even after a flurry of negotiations in late January ended, PTI continued to provide pathways for a judicial resolution, not foreign intervention.

Meanwhile, PTI leaders maintain that attempts to link their efforts to foreign agendas are politically motivated slander aimed at discrediting the party.

Legal Route Over Political Pressure

PTI underscores its commitment to the courts: Imran Khan is imprisoned based on convictions, and any reversal must come through legal appeal or acquittal—not public protest or foreign influence.

As Barrister Gohar noted, they request lawful and constitutional avenues—not external manipulation.

Final Word

In summary:

While there have been a plethora of speculation, all reliable information from PTII’s leadership and government channels indicated that Imran Khan’s future remains at the mercy of an indeterminate legal process – and Pakistan’s constitution.

PTI’s position is unequivocal: they are NOT pursuing a foreign “rescue” or exile plan. Their focus continues to be on legal relief and digesting their political strategy domestically.
