The Sindh Government has officially announced plans to develop a biographical movie about Abdul Sattar Edhi, a well-known humanitarian who is admired all over Pakistan and beyond.

Why a Biopic Matters
Abdul Sattar Edhi was also referred to as the “Angel of Mercy” for a life dedicated to easing the suffering of humanity. In 1951, Edhi established the Edhi Foundation, now with the largest fleet of volunteer ambulances, and also with hospitals, orphanages, and homes for the destitute all throughout Pakistan.
The purpose of this photographic biopic, is to present a story of compassion, service and humility, to a broader public and inspire youth.

Plans and Goals
The Sindh Information Department officials said the film will depict Edhi’s life, starting with his humble beginnings in Bantva, Gujarat, and then moving forward to 1947 and accounting for the Edhi foundation that he formed. Some of the highlights of the film will include:

He was tracking the number of dead during major flu, which propelled him to buy his first ambulance in 1957.More attention surrounding more assistance for homes lost to natural disasters, orphans, the elderly, and widows.

He lived modestly, and literally slept on his own at the foundation’s Karachi headquarters with only two sets of clothes.
Filmmakers want to focus on making key moral decisions, including not taking money from questionable sources. For instance, he returned a cheque from a wealthy businessman.

Important to the Country and Its Culture
Edhi is a humanatarian hero but also embodies some of Pakistan’s finest, positive and helpful values – justice, compassion and serving humanity without a measure of creed/ethnicity. His life story has inspired individuals from all over the world, and has garnered many prizes including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Lenin Peace Prize, and Nishan-e-Imtiaz, which is the highest civilian award in Pakistan.

A biography might help maintain his reputation as Pakistan’s moral compass alive. This would strengthen national identity and motivate people to be good citizens.

Information on the manufacturing and the schedule
The Sindh government will be in responsible of developing the script, casting the actors, and doing the research. They will work with the Edhi Foundation and filmmakers in the area. There are indications that filming would commence in Karachi later this year, but the dates are still uncertain. Some of the places will be Edhi’s first clinic in Mithadar and the former Hockey Club, which is now known as Abdul Sattar Edhi Stadium.

The production teams are also working with Edhi’s kids, especially Faisal Edhi, to make sure the story is true and has a lot of feeling.

Issues and opportunities
When you film a movie about a living legacy, you have to be careful about how you tell the story. Biopics can be hagiography, but the creators promise to be honest by portraying Edhi’s issues and criticisms while also respecting his honesty and dedication to his country.

This biopic gives Pakistan’s fledgling film industry a chance to mix cinema with national responsibility, which might help it make money and improve its cultural reputation.

The Last Word
Making a film tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi is not just a joyful opportunity, it is a national tribute. The narrative of his humble beginnings, humanitarian instincts and unwavering convictions as a human being would not just be motivational but also illustrative of the power of empathy as the original basis for community service.

If we produce this film with diligence and regard, it could be among the most significant stories told in Pakistan. It is a touching homage to a man whose legacy continues on through the years. It also reminds us that how we treat strangers shows how great we are.
