LAHORE – Several prominent cricketers in Pakistan have indicated their availability for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) draft, potentially paving the way back to Australian T20.
Some of the players signed up are Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan and Fatima Sana, and their availabiility is still pending approval of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), but the intent is strong.
For Shaheen and Rizwan, both of whom hold key roles in the national side, this is a chance to test themselves again on foreign pitches. Haris Rauf, already familiar with the BBL from past seasons with Melbourne Stars, could be set for another stint. His raw pace has previously earned him a cult following in the tournament.
Shadab Khan, who has played in leagues around the world, offers the all-round utility BBL sides often seek. Meanwhile, Fatima Sana could make history if picked, with very few Pakistani women having ever featured in overseas T20 leagues.
While player interest is high, whether they take part depends on Pakistan’s international calendar and if NOCs are granted in time. The BBL draft gives franchises a chance to plan early, but they’re likely watching the situation closely.
With several teams expected to rebuild ahead of the new season, Pakistani players bring plenty to the table — from experience and temperament to raw match-winning ability.
Though financial benefits are a factor, many players are equally drawn by the opportunity to grow by playing in unfamiliar conditions under pressure.
Pakistan’s presence in the BBL has grown gradually, and this year’s draft could further strengthen that trend. If all goes to plan, fans down under could be cheering for more than just homegrown heroes.
