During a recent press conference, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and noted that Pakistan would respond decisively if attacked. The statements came amidst increased tensions with India following the Pahalgam incident in April 2025 that resulted in the deaths of 26 people.
General Chaudhry highlighted that Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be misconstrued as weakness. He stated, “Pakistan is a peaceful nation, but any imposed conflict will be met with a swift and forceful response.” This sentiment was echoed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who warned that any attempt by India to block Pakistan’s water rights under the Indus Waters Treaty would be considered an act of war .
The DG ISPR also addressed concerns over India’s alleged targeting of Pakistan’s water infrastructure, terming such actions as “unacceptable and a dangerous escalation.” He questioned the legality and morality of targeting water reservoirs and dams, emphasizing the potential risks to civilian lives and regional stability
In response to India’s accusations regarding the Pahalgam attack, Pakistani officials have denied involvement and called for an impartial investigation. They have also presented evidence suggesting India’s involvement in supporting terrorism within Pakistan, including the recovery of a made-in-India drone and financial support to terrorist operatives
While both nations are going through a time of heightened tensions, Pakistan’s leaders continue to express a preference for negotiations towards a peaceful resolution. However, they would also caution that any further provocation would be met with a resolute and decisive response aimed at protecting national sovereignty and regional peace.
